case study 02 : The Lightweighting of Road Wheel
- Consideration to The Production Requirements. -

Outline

The car road wheel's design needs to consider mechanical characteristic and the necessary conditions for manufacture.
It's possible for nonparametric shape optimization function of OPTISHAPE-TS to optimize while considering these conditions.

On this page, the example in consideration of the conditions for manufacture to a two-wheeled vehicle road wheel is introduced.

Analysis Model

Road Wheel

Initial Model

  • Scale : diameter 600*150 [mm]
  • Element type : Second-Order Tetrahedral Element
  • Number of Elements : 38,625
  • Number of Nodes : 72,630

Optimization Condition

Upkeep of the initial stiffness, and the lightweighting in consideration of a production problem.

  • Object : Volume Minimization ( = Lightweighting)
  • Constraint : Stiffness (for 3 loads)
  • Constraint for the production requirements :
    - Die Drawing
    - the smallest wall thickness
    - 1/3 periods symmetry shape (using MPC)

Load, Constraint Condition

Plural load to the wheel's rim, and bolt hole is restricted completely.

Load, Constraint Condition

Consideration to The Production Requirements

Production Requirement 1 : Die drawing is possible.
Production Requirement 2 : Thickness more than fixed.

      -> Using "Shape Restriction Function".

Production Requirement 3 : Sporkes are rotary symmetric shape.

-> Using "Shape Restriction Function by MPC".
